No drinking to be enforced in 5 areas

Councillor Ian Grayson welcomed the recent report endorsing 5 no drinking areas in North Tyneside.

The council are now able to introduce bans on drinking in public places and if members of the public persist they can be arrested. This is now possible because of the Crime and Disorder Act recently introduced by the Labour Government.

However speaking at a recent Council meeting, Councillor Ian Grayson said,

“ I welcome these measures being enacted and enforced, however it is a short sighted report which does not cover enough of the borough. It has not gone far enough. I would like to see more areas and parks included and covered by this law.”

The 5 areas are

  • Richardson Dees Park
  • Marden Quarry Park
  • Preston Cemetery
  • Front Street in Tynemouth
  • Benton Quarry Park.

    Councillor Grayson added,

“ I am sure residents will agree with me that more areas should be covered by this law and I am sure they could suggest areas near where they live that could be included in the scheme.

“ I welcome comments and suggestions from residents who can contact me via the Town Hall at any time.”
