Parking safety issues in MonkseatonMonkseaton Village is a success story, with some excellent shops and services. But that brings with it its own problems. Coronation Terrace is the small street which comes off Front Street, just beside Seashells Fish and Chip Shop. The junction itself is a nightmare, with vehicle movements being quite complex, and the sight lines not always clear.
It is a very busy pedestrian area, there are many retired and elderly people who live nearby, to say nothing of children. Unfortunately, too many vehicle drivers are thoughtless and lazy and the short street is often blocked with parked cars. Many of the drivers are going to nearby shops, especially the fish shop.
Many times I have seen cars parked there even though there are double yellow lines and there are places in the nearby car park. Sooner or later there is going to be a serious accident. This cannot be acceptable.
Of course, there are special cases, including ‘ disabled drivers’, but the problem is much bigger than this. We need to get the Council and the police together to solve this. It will require care and attention to detail. No excuses are acceptable.
OTHER PARKING PROBLEMS:
But Coronation Terrace is not the only area with parking problems. I have also been contacted by residents about parking in the following areas:
· Shaftesbury Crescent to Foxhunters Road (connected with car dealers);
· Zetland Drive area;
· Residents of The Gardens being told to park on pavements to let busses pass;
