Residents, MP and Local Councillors Join Forces to try to Stop New York Post Office Closure

Collingwood Ward councillors today launched their campaign to try to stop New York post Office Closure. They were joined by Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell and local residents who were outraged when they heard the news.

Local campaigner Margaret Wright organised the demonstration which was well attended by about 20 concerned people.

Collingwood Ward Councillors are to circulate an urgent newsletter to all near by residents to highlight the closure.

Councillor Ian Grayson said
“ This is an excellent start to the campaign and I am delighted to see so many local people at this protest only 2 days before Christmas. We must build on this and get as many residents as possible to write in and complain about the planned closure.”

The proposed closure is not only opposed by the post master but also by the neighbouring Chemists shop.
