Sport centre Proposals in ChaosProposals to develop new sport and leisure facilities in Wallsend and Killingworth have been rejected for financial support by government officials.
In a meeting of North Tyneside’s Tory Cabinet, members were informed of the department’s decision not to progress the bid to the second stage of selection due to a limited number of credits available.
At a recent Council meeting Councillors were told that the Cabinet propose to spend £35,000 on a consultation exercise in the area.
Speaking after the meeting Councillor Ian Grayson made the following comments, which were reported, in the local press.
“ I do not think that at the moment the Cabinet knows were it is going. I feel it is a complete waste of £35,000 to carry out a consultation exercise with the people of Killingworth and Wallsend to find out what we already know. We know that these residents want quality leisure facilities in their area. The consultation will tell us nothing knew.
I feel the money could be better spent”.
