Tesco’s state that they are to open a new store in September 2002 on the site of the former Tyne Tees Motor Auction, Norham Road, North Shields.
The opening of such a store could bring
* Over 300 jobs
* Much needed road improvements around the site
* Better public transport links
* More chance for local shoppers
* And Important Regeneration to the area.
Councillor Grayson says
“ I have been contacted by many residents who say they support the store opening, and Tesco’s insist that the store will open.
I am very concerned that the store will open without the necessary discussions between the Council and Tesco and as a consequence many of the potential benefits will be lost.
"I have also asked Mayor Morgan to let me know his intentions with regard to this very important development."
