About me

I am a Teacher in a large comprehensive school in Newcastle Upon Tyne and have been for since 1986. I have a son, Tom who is 11 years old. Tom attends Ryton Junior School having previously attended Ryton Infant School from the age of 3. He shares my love of all sports and is already a better footballer and rugby player than I am. I am very keen on all sports and still play football, cricket and squash although not to any great standard these days.

I am also a volunteer rugby coach at Ryton Rugby Club. I am fully involved in the mini rugby section as I have been for the past 4 seasons. My son Tom plays regularly for the Under 12s.

I am a qualified Canoe Instructor and also hold a current Red Cross First Aid certificate.

I was born and brought up in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and I lived there until I went to train as a teacher at Chester College. I moved to the North East when I was appointed to my first teaching post. I lived in Newcastle from 1986 to 1989 when I moved to Whitley Bay.

A committed union member, NUT representative, and Secretary of Newcastle NUT, I spend a large amount of my time helping individuals and groups of NUT members in their fight for fairness in the work place.
